Israel Launches Fresh Attacks on Beirut, Following Iranian Missile Strikes
By Utebor Paul
Israel has launched a fresh wave of attacks on Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, early Wednesday.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) made this known via their official handle on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), stating that the strikes targeted what they referred to as “terrorist positions” in Beirut.
In preparation for the assault, the Israeli army issued several evacuation orders to residents of multiple buildings located in Beirut’s southern suburbs.
As at the time of filing this report, there have been no confirmed reports of casualties or damage.
This attack comes just hours after Iran launched a major missile strike on Israel, firing approximately 180 rockets on Tuesday evening.
Israeli military sources have claimed that the Iranian attack was in retaliation for the reported killings of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.
In a statement, Iran warned Israel of “devastating consequences” if any retaliatory action was taken.
The Iranian strike follows an earlier limited ground operation by Israeli forces, which had targeted Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon.
Tensions continue to rise, as fears mount that the situation could escalate into a full-scale regional conflict.
