IGERIA: APC Blasts PDP Governors Over Criticism, Says Opposition Has Failed Nigerians
By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed the recent statement by governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing it as “hypocrisy” and a reflection of the opposition party’s decline.
In a press statement signed by Felix Morka, CON, National Publicity Secretary of the APC, on Monday, the ruling party said the PDP governors had failed their states, their party, and the citizens.
The statement was issued in response to the PDP Governors’ Forum meeting in Zamfara State on Saturday, where the opposition leaders accused the APC of undemocratic practices and warned that Nigerians would reject the ruling party in the 2027 elections.
APC said the PDP, plagued by internal crises and dwindling public support, was in no position to question the ruling party’s performance.
The party pointed to its recent victories in bye-elections across Zamfara, Adamawa, and Kano as evidence that Nigerians still trust President Bola Tinubu’s administration and its Renewed Hope agenda.
“It is infantile and irresponsible for PDP governors to hail democracy where they won in the bye-election and decry democracy everywhere they lost,” the statement said, adding that the opposition must accept the outcome of the polls as a loss of confidence from the electorate.
The APC accused PDP state governments of failing to deliver good governance despite receiving record federal allocations under the Tinubu administration. According to the statement, revenue distribution to states has doubled, with over ₦2 trillion shared as of July 2025.
The ruling party argued that Nigerians would not return to what it called the “dark era” of PDP governance, when many states were bankrupt and unable to pay wages. It urged citizens to ignore what it described as “empty rhetoric” from the opposition and continue to support the APC for national renewal and prosperity.
