Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) Chairperson Gift Trapence and Commissioner Ernest Thindwa have appealed to citizens to remain calm and seek peaceful means to address electoral grievances.
Trapence and Thindwa made the remarks at a press briefing held at the Parliament building in Lilongwe, where ruling party leader George Chaponda and opposition leader Richard Chimwendo Banda were engaged in a heated debate over electoral disputes.
Thindwa emphasised that Malawi has consistently held peaceful elections since 1994, with all parties respecting the outcome. He urged citizens to maintain this tradition.
HRDC Chairperson Gift Trapence cautioned that the current disputes should not hinder the country’s progress. Instead, he encouraged citizens to exercise their rights and hold leaders accountable.
