The President-Elect of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, paid a courtesy visit to Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
This visitation was revealed by President Tinubu’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, who shared details on X.com on Tuesday.
He wrote: “The President-Elect of Ghana, H.E John Dramani Mahama paid a courtesy visit to President Tinubu at his residence, Presidential Villa, State House Yesterday.”
The meeting comes shortly after President Tinubu extended his congratulations to Mahama following his victory in Ghana’s general election held on December 7.
During a telephone conversation last week, Tinubu expressed confidence that Mahama’s return to leadership would contribute significantly to regional stability within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The Nigerian leader emphasised the importance of collaboration, noting that he looked forward to strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations across various sectors, including trade, security, and economic development.
The visit underscores the growing diplomatic synergy between Nigeria and Ghana as both nations seek to deepen ties and address shared challenges in the West African region.
Mahama’s meeting with Tinubu is seen as a proactive step towards fostering cooperation in the areas of regional peace, economic integration, and sustainable development.
Political analysts have described the visit as significant, especially at a time when ECOWAS faces mounting challenges, including economic pressures and political transitions across member states.
Mahama, a seasoned politician and former President of Ghana, is set to be sworn in next month, marking a notable return to leadership in the country.
His renewed leadership is expected to pave the way for progressive policies aimed at boosting Ghana’s economic stability and fostering stronger partnerships with neighboring nations, particularly Nigeria.
