Former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has announced the passing of his Special Assistant, Mr. Ndifreke Saviour Mark, who worked closely with him for over 34 years.
Fani-Kayode, in a statement shared on his Instagram page, expressed deep sadness over the tragic incident.
According to him, Mr. Mark, a devout Catholic and member of the Catholic Church of Assumption, Asokoro, left his home early on Sunday, 13th October, to attend morning Mass. After the service, he proceeded to a hotel, Mildy Lodge and Apartments, located in Garki, Abuja.
Fani-Kayode revealed that, based on police reports, Mr. Mark took a room at the hotel and was with an individual when he suddenly slumped and died. He was rushed to Asokoro District Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival and later taken to the hospital morgue.
The individual present at the time of his death has been taken into police custody, and Fani-Kayode confirmed that he has demanded a full criminal investigation and an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Additionally, the hotel receptionist has been detained, while both the manager and owner of the hotel have been questioned by the police. The hotel was sealed for two days, with the room where the incident occurred still sealed for further investigation.
Fani-Kayode also stated that he has informed Mr. Mark’s family, including his wife, Barrister Patience Ndifreke-Mark, and his uncle, Mr. Clement Mathias. He assured them that he would ensure justice is served if any foul play is discovered.
Reflecting on Mr. Mark’s passing, Fani-Kayode described him as a loyal and trusted aide who was like a son to him. “His passing is a huge blow to me and my entire family,” he said, adding that they had shared many dreams and aspirations. He praised Mr. Mark’s kindness and reliability, saying he brought joy to many and was incapable of causing harm.
Fani-Kayode assured the family of his continued support during this difficult time and expressed his confidence in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command to thoroughly investigate the matter.
He concluded by thanking those who had come to offer their condolences, while praying for the repose of Mr. Mark’s soul and the comfort of his family, including his wife and two young children.
