Former aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, has celebrated the death of Yahya Sinwar, a leader of the Palestinian militant group Hamas.
Ahmad made the statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, following reports that Israeli forces had eliminated Sinwar.
Sinwar, a key orchestrator of the 7 October attack on Israel, was killed by Israeli soldiers, according to an official confirmation by Israeli foreign minister, Israel Katz.
The death of Sinwar, which took place on October 17, was announced as a significant success for the Israeli military, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) quickly echoed Katz’s confirmation, stating that Sinwar had been “eliminated” in what is seen as a major victory in Israel’s efforts to neutralise Hamas leadership.
In response to the news, Bashir Ahmad posted a photo of the late Yahya Sinwar with the caption: “He was born, lived and died a leader!”
