Fintiri Bans Covered Plate Numbers for Government Officials, Vows Executive Order
By Utebor Paul, Nigeria
Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has issued a directive prohibiting all government officials, regardless of status, from covering their vehicle plate numbers while plying roads in the state.
The governor made this declaration while receiving an award of excellence as a gender-friendly governor from Adamawa State women, led by the PDP State Women Leader, Dr. Susan Mark Zirra.
Governor Fintiri emphasised that the misuse of covered plate numbers by individuals impersonating government officials to traffic drugs and engage in other criminal activities poses a serious threat to the youth and society.
“Government will not tolerate such acts,” he warned, reiterating his commitment to sign an executive order to enforce the directive.
In his remarks, the governor lauded the critical role of women in societal development, describing them as the backbone of homes and key players in the upbringing of children. He pledged continued support for women and youth through opportunities to serve in his administration.
The event also honored the Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa George Farauta, with an award for her representation of women, and the governor’s wife, Lami Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, for her supportive role.
Professor Farauta praised Governor Fintiri’s inclusive leadership, which she said has empowered women of diverse backgrounds to overcome challenges and contribute meaningfully to the state’s development. She assured that the foundation laid for women’s empowerment in Adamawa would extend to both national and international levels.
In her welcome address, Dr. Susan Mark Zirra commended Governor Fintiri’s exemplary leadership, which has prioritized equity and gender sensitivity. She highlighted his administration’s appointment of women into key positions as a testament to his commitment to gender inclusivity.
Zonal PDP Women Leader, Zainab Ahmed Jangol, also lauded the governor’s resilience in the political arena, describing him as a “hero of democracy” for championing the inclusion of women in governance.
Governor Fintiri expressed gratitude for the recognition, describing it as a morale boost for his administration and a validation of its gender-focused policies.
