In an emotional reflection, Pa Tajudeen Lagbaja, the head of Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja’s family, has expressed regret over obtaining the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) admission form for the late Chief of Army Staff, who recently passed away under sudden and tragic circumstances.
Pa Tajudeen, a close relative of the late General, conveyed his sorrow in an interview with TheNation, noting that he would have reconsidered his decision had he foreseen the untimely fate of his nephew.
“Had I known he would go before me, I would not have bought the NDA form,” Pa Tajudeen shared solemnly. “His death has been a devastating blow to our family. We all give thanks to God, but I cannot help feeling the weight of regret.”
Lt. General Lagbaja’s death has left a lasting impact on his family and community in Ilobu, Osun State. Known for his dedication to both family and his hometown, the General had constructed a borehole in his father’s compound and initiated several other projects to uplift the community.
Some family members have also raised concerns about the circumstances surrounding Lagbaja’s death, speculating that it could be related to a longstanding land dispute in Ilobu.
According to TheNation, the dispute reportedly intensified in 2023 when representatives of the Nigerian Army proposed building a hospital in the town, creating tensions that some relatives believe may have indirectly contributed to his passing.
Pa Tajudeen, while grieving, also acknowledged the lasting void left by Lagbaja’s passing, remembering him as a beacon of hope for the family. “He always gave us hope. The promises he made to our family have now come to an abrupt end,” he said.
Despite the sorrow, Pa Tajudeen added, “I have accepted fate; everyone who is born must die.”
