By Sougrinoma Inocent Ilboudo, Burkina Faso
Burkina Faso’s Etalons qualified for the CAN Morocco 2025 on Sunday evening, beating Burundi’s Hirondelles 2-0 at the Félix Houphouët stadium in Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire) on match day 4 of the competition’s qualifiers. First leg: 4-1 Burkina Faso.
For this second leg, it was the Etalons who got off to a strong start, scoring early on through striker Mohamed Konaté who headed in Cedric Badolo’s corner (5th).
After this goal, Brama Traoré’s men managed the match, containing the unsuccessful Burundian assaults.
Pending Malawi vs. Senegal match next Tuesday, Burkina Faso occupied first place in Group L with 10 points (+7), followed by Senegal (7 points +5), Burkina (3 points – 5) and Malawi (0 point).
In the worst-case scenario, the Stallions will finish 2nd in the group, as neither Malawi nor Burundi can match Burkina’s 10 points at the end of the qualifiers.
This is the second time Burkina Faso have qualified for the CAN with two days to go in the qualifiers, after qualifying in the same circumstances in the qualifiers for the last CAN in Côte d’Ivoire.
Brama Traoré’s colts will play the other two games in these qualifiers for first place in the group.
CAN Morocco 2025 runs from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
