BREAKING: Arise News Anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu Killed In Abuja Armed Robbery

The management of Arise News Channel has announced the death of one of its news anchors, reporters, and producers, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, who was tragically killed during an armed robbery at her residence in Katampe, Abuja.
According to a statement issued by the station on Monday, the 29-year-old journalist, fondly called Sommie, died in the early hours of September 29 following the violent attack, which is currently under investigation by the Nigeria Police.
Born on December 26, 1995, Sommie joined Arise News as a lawyer-turned-broadcaster and quickly became a familiar face on air, known for her engaging presentation style and ability to connect with viewers.
The network described her as a cherished colleague and a vibrant voice whose contributions extended beyond the studio.
“She was a professional and supportive colleague and a friend to many. Sommie’s voice is now silent, but her spirit, passion, and legacy will endure as part of our collective memory,” Arise News said in its condolence message.
The station extended sympathies to her parents, siblings, extended family, friends, and loved ones, calling for a speedy investigation, apprehension, and prosecution of those behind the crime.
Her death has sent shockwaves across Nigeria’s media community, with colleagues and viewers mourning the loss of a young journalist whose career was tragically cut short.
