Over 50 young ladies participated in the 2024 Awan Mass Wedding In Kwara State.
The atmosphere in Shao community, Moro local government area of Kwara state was full of pump and pageantry as Hohoro of Shao Oba Dr. Obalowu Job Atolage gave over 50 young ladies in his domain out for marriage to their respective husbands.
The mass wedding event called Awan-Ga had in attendance dignitaries from all walks of life: Political office holders, business tycoons, philanthropists, sons and daughters of the Shao community both home and abroad.
Awanga Festival in the Shao community is well known around Kwara state and beyond, which simply means an event where all married aged ladies are brought together to marry on a particular day, in the presence of the entire community.
One of the significance of the event was the bride’s cry known as Ekun-Iyawo, which is not common in may Yoruba land anymore.
However, all the latest brides proceeded to perform the ritual of “bride-cry” to the hearing of the entire community.
