Arsenal Sporting Director Edu Gaspar Poised To Depart For New Role With Marinakis’ Club Network

Arsenal’s influential sporting director, Edu Gaspar, is reportedly set to depart the club, with sources suggesting he will take on a new role within Evangelos Marinakis’ multi-club network, which includes Nottingham Forest, Olympiacos, and Portuguese side Rio Ave.
The Brazilian has been integral to reshaping Arsenal’s transfer approach and on-field identity since his return to the club in 2019.
Edu’s decision comes amid reports that Marinakis’ network has ambitious expansion plans, with a possible fourth European club on the horizon.
During his time at Arsenal, Edu oversaw high-profile signings, including Martin Ødegaard and Declan Rice, while managing the exits of prominent players such as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mesut Özil.
Since his arrival, Arsenal has invested £867 million in transfers, trailing only Chelsea and Manchester United in spending, and won the FA Cup, while also achieving back-to-back Premier League runner-up finishes.
Edu, who previously served as general coordinator for the Brazilian national team, brought a bold vision to Arsenal, advocating for a blend of winning and stylistic integrity. “Winning is not enough for Arsenal; style is paramount,” he once stated, emphasising his commitment to achieving success “the right way.”
His impending exit signals a significant shakeup in Arsenal’s management team, with reports highlighting the likely impact of his departure on the club’s transfer strategies.
While the precise reasons for Edu’s decision remain unclear, sources indicate that recent shifts in the responsibilities of senior staff may have played a role.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is expected to address Edu’s situation in a press conference on Tuesday, ahead of the Gunners’ Champions League clash against AC Milan at the San Siro.
