APC Governors urge Nigerians not to blame Tinubu for Economic Hardship
By Onoja Baba
Nigerians have been urged by the chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, not to blame President Bola Tinubu for the current economic hardship ravaging the country.
Uzodimma asserted that attributing the economic challenges solely to the president would be unfair, highlighting that the economic difficulties are a global phenomenon, not confined to Nigeria.
The PGF, comprising governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), made this appeal on Monday during a visit to the APC secretariat in Abuja. The visit aimed to show solidarity and commiserate with the National Chairman of the ruling party, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, over the loss of his mother-in-law.
Accompanied by Cross River Governor Bassey Otu, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and Ekiti State Governor Abiodun Oyebanji, Uzodimma praised the APC’s performance and expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s policies. He stated, “What is happening currently is a global economic problem. President Bola Tinubu is also bringing out policies to ensure that, given the kind of economy and situation he met on the ground, he has started the treatment.”
He assured Nigerians that they would soon see positive results from Tinubu’s management of the economy, adding that, “By the grace of God, I am very confident that very soon, Nigerians will be jubilant about how he has managed to navigate the waters.”
The governors’ visit also aimed to strengthen ties with the party leadership and show support for Ganduje during his time of loss.
Uzodimma emphasised the APC’s commitment to regaining power from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State’s upcoming governorship election on September 21.
He indicated that APC governors would attend the polls in Edo and Ondo states to support their candidates.
Uzodimma underscored the APC’s political strength, stating that, “When I speak, I speak on behalf of my colleagues, the 20 governors, and a party like APC that controls 20 of the 36 states. If an election is a game of numbers, it means the majority will win.”
Ganduje expressed his gratitude for the governors’ visit. He said: “We were highly delighted when we got the information that they (governors) are coming. We have confidence in them.” He affirmed the party’s commitment to maintaining strong relationships with the governors and protecting their interests.
This united front from APC governors aims to reassure the public and bolster the party’s position ahead of critical elections, emphasizing the shared responsibility and collective effort to navigate the country through economic challenges.
