Kenyan Deputy President Kindiki Attends Chapo’s Swearing-In Ceremony In Mozambique

Kenyan Deputy President Kithure Kindiki departed Kenya on Wednesday morning to represent the country at the inauguration of Mozambique’s President-elect, Daniel Francisco Chapo.
The 48-year-old Chapo is set to be sworn in following an election victory with 65% of the vote.
However, the election has been marred by allegations of vote tampering, leading to widespread unrest.
Human rights groups report that over 270 individuals, including protesters, children, and security personnel, have lost their lives in post-election violence.
Chapo’s main opponent, Venâncio Mondlane, briefly sought refuge in South Africa, citing an attempted assassination.
He recently returned to Mozambique after months in exile.
Before assuming the presidency, Chapo served as a radio and TV host, legal notary, university lecturer, provincial governor, and general secretary of the ruling Frelimo party.
Prior to his departure at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Kindiki met with Somalia’s Foreign Affairs Minister Ahmed Moalim, who was en route to Somalia from Egypt.
The two leaders discussed key issues affecting Kenya and Somalia.
“This morning, I left for Maputo to represent Kenya at the inauguration of President-elect Daniel Francisco Chapo.
“Earlier, I had fruitful discussions with Somalia’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, at JKIA,” Kindiki stated.
This marks Kindiki’s second trip abroad as Deputy President.
During his tenure as Interior Cabinet Secretary, he was known for his domestic focus, often visiting multiple counties daily, without making any international trips.
