MALAWI: EGENCO Reassures Malawians Of Minimised Blackouts During Rainy Seasons

The Electricity Generation Company (EGENCO) has assured Malawians that it is well-prepared to minimise blackouts during the 2024-25 rainy season.
This assurance was made by EGENCO’s Chief Executive Officer, Engineer Maxon Chitawo.
EGENCO has formulated a comprehensive emergency preparedness plan to tackle potential challenges during the rainy season.
The company is monitoring water levels and weather forecasts, activating emergency response teams, and implementing flood control measures.
The Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services has commended EGENCO for its proactive approach.
According to the department’s predictions, Malawi is expected to receive normal to above-normal rainfall during the upcoming rainy season due to La Nina.
Engineer Chitawo emphasised that EGENCO’s primary objective is to ensure a reliable power supply throughout the rainy season.
The company has learned from past experiences and put in place measures to mitigate the impact of flooding.
Lucy Mtilatira, Director of the Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services, praised EGENCO’s efforts.
The department is working closely with EGENCO to provide accurate weather forecasts and warnings.
