KENYA: Kenyan Deputy President Resolves Revenue Sharing Dispute Between Governors And Controller Of Budget
By Lisbeth Micheni, Kenya
The Deputy President of Kenya Kithure Kindiki, has successfully mediated a revenue-sharing dispute between county governors and the Controller of Budget (CoB).
The move is aimed at fostering financial accountability and equitable allocation of resources to county governments.
The issue arose from differing interpretations of how funds should be disbursed and utilised under the devolved government system.
Kindiki emphasised the importance of regular consultations to prevent misunderstandings and improve collaboration between stakeholders.
The resolution aligns with the ongoing efforts to enhance devolution by ensuring that counties have sufficient resources to deliver essential services, particularly in healthcare, education, and infrastructure.
Kindiki also underscored the need for transparency and adherence to the Public Finance Management Act to avoid delays in disbursements.
Meanwhile, the governors have expressed optimism about the outcome, with a renewed focus on delivering on their mandates without financial bottlenecks.
The Controller of Budget’s office welcomed the intervention, noting that it provides a clearer framework for resolving future disputes.
This development comes amid broader discussions on strengthening devolution through efficient resource management and better intergovernmental relations.
