The Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM), the primary electricity supply company in Malawi, has attributed the ongoing power outages to heavy rains that have damaged their infrastructure.
According to a statement released by the company, the heavy rains have compromised their ability to provide a stable power supply, particularly in areas prone to flooding.
The company said: “The heavy rains have damaged our infrastructure, making it difficult for us to maintain a stable power supply. We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused and are working to restore power as soon as possible.”
ESCOM also assured customers that they are working to reinforce their infrastructure to mitigate the impact of future heavy rains.
The power outages have been reported in several districts, including Nsanje, Blantyre, and Lilongwe.
ESCOM has advised customers to report any power outages or damage to their infrastructure to facilitate prompt repair and restoration of power.
In addition to the damage caused by heavy rains, ESCOM has also been working to upgrade their infrastructure to improve the reliability and efficiency of their power supply.
The company has invested in new equipment and technology to enhance their operations and reduce the likelihood of power outages.
Despite the challenges posed by the heavy rains, ESCOM remains committed to providing a reliable and efficient power supply to their customers.
The company has assured customers that they are doing everything possible to restore power and prevent future outages.
ESCOM has also encouraged customers to take steps to reduce their energy consumption during periods of high demand, such as using energy-efficient appliances and turning off lights and electronics when not in use.
“By working together, ESCOM and our customers can help to ensure a stable and reliable power supply for all,” the company noted.
