By Utebor Paul, Nigeria
Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has lauded the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) for successfully revamping the old Port Harcourt refinery, which he described as a fulfilment of a long-standing promise.
In a statement shared on social media, Obi disclosed that the refinery’s installed production capacity of 60,000 barrels of crude oil per day and the anticipated daily loading of approximately 200 trucks. He noted that Nigerians eagerly await the positive impact of the refinery’s operations on pump prices and the broader economy.
“The refinery, which comes on stream today, is a welcome development, and Nigerians are hopeful for the corresponding benefits on fuel prices and economic stability,” Obi stated.
He also expressed optimism over the reported revival of the Kaduna refinery, which he believes will boost productivity, enhance transportation, and reduce economic hardships across the country.
While commending these milestones, Obi emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in the management of Nigeria’s oil resources. He stressed that the gains from the increased refining capacity must be used to benefit all Nigerians and support sustainable development.
“Nigerians deserve clarity and accountability regarding the management of the nation’s vital oil resources,” Obi said. “It is imperative that the benefits of these achievements reach every Nigerian.”
Concluding his statement with his signature optimism, Obi reiterated his vision for a better Nigeria, declaring, “A new Nigeria is POssible!”
