NIGERIA: Bobrisky ‘Jets’ Out Of Nigeria Amid Escalating Legal Troubles
By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
Controversial Nigerian crossdresser and social media influencer, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has reportedly left Nigeria amid ongoing legal issues with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
This development comes just days after his recent release from EFCC custody.
In a series of videos posted on his Instagram stories early Monday, Bobrisky teased his departure, showing off a first-class ticket without disclosing his final destination. “See you soon, Nigeria. This girl bought a first-class ticket three times; that’s over 30 million naira. Raise the bar for this girl,” he boasted, adding a humorous remark about his passport photo, calling it “disfigured.”
Bobrisky’s departure follows a tumultuous few days, including an incident at Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Thursday night when he was removed from a KLM flight bound for Amsterdam.
According to sources, Bobrisky had been en route to London when he was intercepted by airport security and allegedly sustained injuries during the incident, which he later shared with his social media followers.
Following the airport confrontation, Bobrisky was taken to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja, where he was reportedly questioned regarding alleged bribery.
Investigators claim he had offered 15 million naira in exchange for having money laundering charges dismissed.
However, in a statement made at the commission’s headquarters, he denied the bribery allegations. After two days in EFCC custody, he was released on bail Saturday.
Bobrisky’s legal troubles trace back to April 2024, when he was sentenced to six months in prison for currency abuse. Though initially incarcerated at Kirikiri Prison, reports suggest he only served three weeks before being discreetly moved to an undisclosed private location.
The situation took a new twist in September when popular influencer Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, released an audio clip that allegedly captured Bobrisky discussing bribery attempts to clear his name of the money laundering charges.
