MALAWI: *Tribute Concert For Music Legend Soldier Lucius Banda Postponed Indefinitely*
By Smile Hamilton, Malawi
The highly anticipated tribute concert for Malawi’s music icon, Soldier Lucius Banda, has been postponed indefinitely due to financial constraints.
Impakt Events had scheduled the event for September 28 in Lilongwe to honor Banda’s remarkable legacy, however, financial constraints have hindered the organizers’ efforts to move forward.
According to Johnny Zembani Banda, one of the organizers, the main challenge lies in securing foreign currency to pay international artists, who require dollars instead of kwacha.
The event aimed to bring together local and international artists to celebrate Banda’s life and contributions to Malawian music.
Soldier Lucius Banda, who passed away on June 30, 2024, in South Africa, left an indelible mark on the music industry.
His distinctive voice, poignant lyrics, and commitment to social justice inspired countless fans and fellow musicians. The music community continues to mourn his loss, with tributes pouring in from across Malawi and beyond
Banda’s legacy extends beyond his music. He used his platform to advocate for change, uplift marginalized voices, and promote unity and resilience.
As Malawi remembers this legendary musician, the postponed tribute concert serves as a reminder of the lasting impact he had on the country’s cultural landscape.
However, the organizers have not announced a new date for the concert, leaving fans and fellow musicians eagerly awaiting an update. Despite the setback, Soldier Lucius Banda’s music and legacy continue to inspire and unite Malawians.
