President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Mr Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of Power, in a move seen as part of efforts to strengthen reforms and improve performance in Nigeria’s electricity sector.
The nomination, which is subject to Senate confirmation, has been formally transmitted to the National Assembly in line with constitutional provisions.
The development follows the resignation of the former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down from office to pursue elective political ambitions.
The nomination was contained in a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on April 30, 2026.
Mr Tegbe, an indigene of Oyo State, is a fiscal and economic reform expert with over 35 years of experience across both public and private sectors. He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led major initiatives in fiscal policy reform, governance, and institutional transformation.
He currently serves as Director General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), where he coordinates bilateral development efforts between Nigeria and China, particularly in advancing economic cooperation and strategic investments.
His experience also spans the power sector, with involvement in regulatory and institutional reforms linked to key agencies such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET).
President Tinubu expressed confidence that, upon confirmation, the minister-designate would deploy his expertise to drive critical reforms, improve grid stability, and attract sustainable investments aimed at delivering better power outcome
