Mobility issues and inadequate healthcare infrastructure in Blantyre North Constituency have prompted a Malawian local businessman, Khumbo Billy Banda, to step in with a generous donation. Banda has provided an ambulance and a utility vehicle to the Senior Group Village Head Mkumba community, aiming to improve access to medical services.
Banda, who has political aspirations as a UTM candidate for the constituency, expressed concern over the struggles faced by pregnant women in the area.
He highlighted the lack of reliable transportation, making it difficult for women to reach health centers and referral hospitals, such as Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital.
Senior Group Village Head Mkumba also voiced similar concerns. He noted that the community has long relied on a single ambulance from Mpemba, which is often overstretched and insufficient to meet the growing needs of the population.
