Salva Kiir Mayardit has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to granting humanitarian agencies unhindered access to all affected areas across South Sudan.
The assurance was made during a meeting with the visiting United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Tom Fletcher. The discussions focused on the country’s humanitarian situation and the urgent need to scale up assistance to vulnerable communities.
Fletcher described the meeting as constructive, noting that it addressed both national and regional humanitarian challenges. He welcomed the President’s pledge, emphasising that unrestricted access is critical to reaching displaced populations and communities affected by flooding and other emergencies.
Also present at the meeting was the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Albino Akol Atak. He said the President directed the ministry to strengthen coordination with UN agencies and humanitarian partners to ensure a more effective and timely response to ongoing crises.
