NIGERIA: Police Arrest 13 Suspects Over Fatal APC Ward Congress Attack In Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested 13 suspects in connection with a violent attack during the All Progressives Congress ward congress in Idanre Local Government Area on Wednesday.
The incident resulted in the deaths of two people, injuries to three others, and significant property destruction.
The arrests were announced on Saturday by the command’s Spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, following a carefully coordinated, intelligence-led operation ordered by the state Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal.
The suspects, all male and aged between 25 and 55 years, include Adewusi (38), Dele (28), Akinkurole (38), Victor (30), Abbas (30), Michael (35), Jolojolo (36), Ifedayo (38), Olamilekan (25), Emmanuel (25), Sunday (49), Michael (55), and Monday (25).
They are currently in police custody, where they have provided useful statements aiding the ongoing investigation. The command stated that operatives from the Idanre Police Division acted on credible intelligence and sustained surveillance to carry out the arrests at strategic locations, as part of efforts to identify all perpetrators and bring them to justice.
CP Lawal reiterated the police command’s commitment to thoroughly unraveling the circumstances of the attack, identifying any additional collaborators, and determining the specific roles of each suspect.
He expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for strategic leadership and operational support that have enhanced the command’s response to security challenges in the state.
Lawal warned that the police would deploy full capacity against anyone planning to disrupt public peace, while urging residents of Idanre and the entire state to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperative by providing timely information to aid the investigation and promote co
