The President of the Republic of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, has officially signed into law three important pieces of legislation aimed at strengthening governance, accountability, and environmental protection across the country.
The newly enacted laws include:
Cyber Crime and Computer Misuse Act, 2026
Southern Sudan Audit Chamber (Amendment) Act, 2026
Wildlife Conservation and Protected Areas Act, 2026
Speaking to the media, the Minister of Information, Ateny Wek Ateny, said the Cyber Crime and Computer Misuse Act provides a clear legal framework to address offences committed through computer systems and digital platforms.
He noted that the law will enhance the country’s capacity for timely detection, prevention, investigation, and prosecution of cyber-related crimes, as South Sudan continues to embrace digital transformation.
On financial oversight, the Minister explained that the Southern Sudan Audit Chamber (Amendment) Act, 2026 strengthens procedures for auditing and reporting on the accounts of national government ministries, institutions, agencies, departments, and public corporations where public funds are received, invested, or spent. The amendment is expected to reinforce transparency and accountability in the management of public resources.
Regarding environmental conservation, Ateny said the Wildlife Conservation and Protected Areas Act, 2026 establishes a comprehensive regulatory framework to govern wildlife conservation and the management of protected areas. The law aims to safeguard South Sudan’s rich natural heritage and biodiversity for sustainable use and for the benefit of present and future generations.
The three new laws are widely seen as significant steps toward improving digital governance, enhancing public financial management, and promoting sustainable environmental stewardshi
