Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has assented to the 2026 Appropriation Bill, approving a N617.95 billion “Budget of Consolidation” that prioritises capital projects, security contributions, and people-centred initiatives across Gombe State.
The signing ceremony at the Government House Council Chamber followed the formal presentation of the passed bill by the State House of Assembly delegation led by Speaker Abubakar Mohammed Luggerewo. The budget allocates N428.5 billion (69.4 per cent) to capital expenditure and N189 billion (21.6 per cent) to recurrent spending, underscoring the administration’s emphasis on infrastructure and long-term growth.
Originally proposed at N535.69 billion in November, the Assembly’s review added over N82 billion after detailed scrutiny, including an extended Appropriation Committee session in Calabar. A standout provision is N12 billion for the Northern States Governors’ Forum security fund, equating to N1 billion monthly, positioning Gombe as a leader in regional efforts against insecurity.
Yahaya described the budget as realistic and citizen-focused, prioritising health, education, social investment, environmental protection, mineral development, and support for persons with disabilities. He highlighted his administration’s record of touching all sectors since 2019, with consistent budget implementation exceeding 70 per cent, and thanked President Bola Tinubu for federal support while appealing for further interventions.
Speaker Luggerewo commended the Governor’s developmental strides, particularly in healthcare, noting international recognition at a recent summit. He affirmed the Assembly’s adjustments were made in good faith and praised the harmonious executive-legislative relationship, including provisions like vehicles that enhanced legislative efficiency.
The Governor reiterated commitment to security, legacy project completion, and inclusive growth, declaring “We started with work. We are still working. And by the grace of God, we will end with more work.” The 2026 budget signals continued action-oriented governance aimed at transforming Gombe into a model of sustainable development.
