2027: Saraki Chairs PDP Governors Forum Committee To Prepare For NEC Meeting, National Convention

By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
Former Senate President, Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has announced the outcome of a high-level meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum, held at the Bauchi Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.
In a statement posted on his official Facebook page shortly after the meeting on Sunday night, Saraki disclosed that the gathering, which was attended by both serving and former governors of the party, deliberated on the current challenges facing the PDP and the party’s future.
According to him, the meeting was “well attended” and produced “fruitful deliberations.”
A major outcome of the meeting was the constitution of a seven-man committee tasked with ensuring a rancour-free National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for May 27, as well as preparations for the party’s upcoming national convention.
Saraki was appointed chairman of the committee and expressed his readiness to work with fellow members, including three sitting governors, Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State, Caleb Muftwang of Plateau State, and Peter Mba of Enugu State.
Other committee members are former Bayelsa State governor, Senator Seriake Dickson; former Gombe State governor, Senator Ibrahim Dankwambo; and former Abia State governor, Chief Okezie Ikpeazu.
“We hope to do our best in delivering on the assignment given to us,” Saraki stated.
The formation of this committee is seen as a strategic move by the party to foster unity, stabilize its internal structures, and ensure a successful national convention amid internal wrangling and political repositioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.
