The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed that more than half of the candidates scored below 200 out of the total 400 obtainable marks.
This was disclosed by the Board in its statistical analysis of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) shared on Monday through its official X handle.
According to the analysis, out of 1,955,069 candidates who sat for the examination, 50.29% scored between 160 and 199. Only 12,414 candidates (0.63%) managed to score 300 and above. Among them, just 0.24% of the total scored 320 and above
Other breakdowns of performance include:
73,441 candidates (3.76%) scored between 250 and 299.
334,560 (17.11%) fell within the 200–249 range.
488,197 (24.97%) scored between 140 and 159.
57,419 (2.94%) scored between 120 and 139.
3,820 (0.20%) scored between 100 and 119.
Only 2,031 candidates (0.10%) scored below 100.
It was also gathered that 40,247 underage candidates were given special permission to participate in the UTME to showcase their exceptional abilities. However, only 467 (1.16%) met the defined benchmark for exceptional performance. Their progression through the next three evaluation stages is still underway.
The board also reported that 97 candidates were found guilty of examination infractions, and 2,157 others are under investigation for alleged malpractice. In addition, 71,701 candidates were absent from the exam. Some of the absentees are being investigated for biometric issues and, if cleared, will be rescheduled to sit for the examination at designated centres.
JAMB further disclosed that a few results, including those of visually impaired candidates and other special groups under the JEOG category, are still being processed.
A press conference is expected to be held later in the week, during which candidates will be officially informed about how to check their results.
