Nigeria – 2027: I Am Not Desperate To Become President – Peter Obi
By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
Former presidential candidate of the Labor Party, Peter Obi, has stated that he is not desperate to become Nigeria’s president, amid speculation surrounding his political ambitions for the near future.
Obi made this clear in a post on X, responding to the controversy that followed his recent interview on News Central TV.
Some reports had suggested that he was considering a deal to run as a vice-presidential candidate in the 2027 elections, which he categorically denied.
Obi emphasized his commitment to the Labor Party and clarified that while he is open to working with others, any potential collaboration must align with his vision for Nigeria’s development.
“I am not preoccupied with 2027 while Nigerians are suffering from hunger, poverty, insecurity, and other pressing challenges,” Obi wrote.
He further stated, “I am not desperate to become president, but I am determined to see Nigeria work. Likewise, I am not desperate for any position.”
The former Anambra State governor reiterated that if he were to run for office in the future, it would only be in partnership with individuals who are focused on solving Nigeria’s most critical issues, such as education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation.
In the face of widespread misrepresentation of his words, Obi stood firm, insisting that he had not agreed to serve as anyone’s vice president.
His priority, he maintained, remains advancing Nigeria’s progress and partnering with those who share the same vision.
“My commitment to Nigeria remains steadfast, and I even believe it is possible to contribute to its progress without occupying any office,” Obi concluded.
